[EN] Word add-in installation guide for Microsoft administrators

Microsoft account administrators: install and deploy the Doctrine add-in in Word so legal teams can access Doctrine's AI right where they draft.

Écrit par Justine Burel

1. About the Doctrine add-in

Doctrine is the leading French legal platform, offering centralized access to case law, legislation, legal commentary and information about legal professionals.

The Doctrine Word add-in gives your team direct access, from Microsoft Word, to all the legal resources available on the Doctrine platform. When drafting legal documents, they can look up and insert legal references without leaving their work environment.

📌 The add-in is available on the Microsoft Marketplace (AppSource) under the ID WA200007621. It is free to install; an active Doctrine subscription is required to access content.

Compatible Word versions

Before deploying, make sure your users have a compatible version of Word:

  • Windows: Word version 2302 (Build 16130.20332) or later (Microsoft 365 or Office 2024)

  • Mac: Word version 16.70 or later (Microsoft 365 or Office 2024)

  • Word on the web (Microsoft 365) on Mac and Windows

⚠️ Office LTSC 2024 is not compatible with the Doctrine add-in, even though it carries the 2024 label. These volume-licensed, one-time purchase versions receive security updates but not the new Word features the add-in requires. If your organization uses Office LTSC, your users will need a Microsoft 365 subscription to use Doctrine in Word.

2. Deploying the add-in

Method 1: Centralized deployment (recommended)

⭐ Centralized deployment is the method Microsoft recommends for organizations. It automatically deploys the add-in to all targeted devices, with no action required from end users.

1. Access the Microsoft 365 admin center

Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center with an account that has the required administrator rights.

1. Open your browser and go to: admin.microsoft.com

2. Sign in with your administrator credentials.

3. In the left navigation pane, click Show all to expand all menus.

2. Go to Integrated apps

4. In the left menu, select Settings.

5. Click Integrated apps.

6. On the Integrated apps page, click the Get apps link.

💡 If you don't see the "Integrated apps" option, your organization may be using the classic Exchange admin center. In that case, see the relevant section below.

3. Deploy the Doctrine add-in

7. In the search bar, type Doctrine and press Enter.

8. Find the "Doctrine" add-in in the results (publisher: FORSETI).

9. Click Get it now to select the add-in.

4. Configure assignment

Once the add-in is selected, configure the assignment options:

10. In the "Who has access" section, choose one of the following options:

  • Everyone: Deploys the add-in to all users in the organization.

  • Specific users/groups: Select only the relevant legal teams or departments. With this option, we recommend that you:

    • Create a dedicated Microsoft security group (e.g. "Doctrine-Users") to make management easier.

    • Assign users to this group rather than managing them individually.

After the initial deployment, you can change the users and groups with access to the Doctrine add-in at any time.

11. Configure the deployment method:

Select "Fixed" so that the add-in appears automatically in the Word ribbon with no action required from users.

12. Click Deploy to complete the installation.

13. A confirmation message appears. Click Done.

✅ The add-in is now deployed. It may take up to 24 hours to become visible in Word for the relevant users.

📧 Tip: Email your team to let them know the Doctrine add-in is available in Word, including when it will appear and how to use it.

Method 2: Individual installation from the Marketplace

With this method, each user installs the Doctrine add-in themselves from Word, with no administrator involvement. It is suited to small organizations or for a quick rollout on a few devices.

⚠️ This method requires users to have permission to install add-ins. Some corporate security policies may block the installation. Check your settings before sharing this procedure.

Installing from Word (desktop version)

1. Open Microsoft Word and create or open a document.

2. Click the Insert tab in the ribbon.

3. In the "Add-ins" group, click Get Add-ins (or Store).

4. In the Marketplace window that opens, type "Doctrine" in the search bar.

5. Find the "Doctrine" add-in (publisher: FORSETI) and click Add.

6. Read and accept the terms of use, then click Continue.

7. The add-in now appears in the Home tab of the Word ribbon.

OR Installing from Word Online

1. Go to Word Online via office.com and open a document.

2. Click Insert > Office Add-ins.

3. Search for "Doctrine" in the Marketplace.

4. Click Add to install the add-in.

🔗 To make installation easier for users, you can share the Microsoft Marketplace link with them directly: https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/office/wa200007621

3. Post-deployment management

Automatic updates

When an add-in has been deployed from the Microsoft Marketplace, updates are applied automatically by Microsoft. As an administrator, no action is required on your part to keep the add-in up to date.

Enabling and disabling

You can temporarily disable the add-in without removing it:

1. Go to Settings > Integrated apps > Add-ins.

2. Click the Doctrine add-in.

3. Use the "Disable" button to pause the add-in.

4. To re-enable it, click "Enable".

Removing the add-in

⚠️ Removing the add-in immediately removes it for all relevant users. Make sure you inform your teams before proceeding.

1. Go to Settings > Integrated apps > Add-ins.

2. Click the Doctrine add-in.

3. Click the Remove button.

4. Confirm the removal in the dialog box.

4. Verifying the installation

Administrator check

To confirm that the add-in has been deployed:

1. In the admin center, go to Settings > Integrated apps > Add-ins.

2. The Doctrine add-in should appear in the list with the status "Enabled".

3. The "Assigned to" column should reflect the users or groups you configured.

User check

Ask a test user to check that the add-in is visible:

1. Open Microsoft Word (after the 24-hour propagation period).

2. Check that a Doctrine icon or tab appears in the ribbon.

3. Click the Doctrine icon and sign in with Doctrine credentials.

4. Run a test search to confirm everything works.

✅ If the add-in appears in the ribbon and sign-in works, the installation was successful. You can proceed with deployment to all targeted users.

Troubleshooting common issues

Issue

Solution

The add-in won't install even though the user has Word 2024

Check whether the user has Office LTSC 2024 (volume license). This version is not compatible with the add-in. A Microsoft 365 subscription is required.

The add-in doesn't appear after 24 hours

Check that the user is included in the assignment group or list. Ask them to sign out of Microsoft, sign back in and restart Word.

The add-in appears but doesn't work

Make sure the user has an active Doctrine subscription. Check the internet connection and that no firewall is blocking Doctrine domains.

Doctrine can't be found in the Marketplace

Search for the exact ID WA200007621 or use the marketplace.microsoft.com link directly. Check that your Microsoft tenant allows access to the Marketplace.

The add-in disappears after a Word update

Some major Word updates may require redeployment. Go back to the admin center and check the add-in's status.
